An Art Deco, Pouchoir christmas card by Edouard Halouze - hand coloured. The pouchoir process was quite complicated. The artist's picture was broken down into separate areas - and stencils made, colours chosen - and a group of craftsmen were given a stencil (or patron) each and were responsible for painting that area. (A sort of skilled conveyor belt!). (see Art Deco Prints by Giuliano Ercoli - Phaidon-Christie's Limited). Improved printing methods and the second world war put an end to this technique. Although the cards look the same - closer inspection reveals minute differences - for example in the dots! I have 6 of these cards - which are unused. They are £35 each - and would look great in a frame. They are blank on the inside of the card. They measure just short of 6 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches.
