This is a Marie-Christine Pavone brooch. It is a red cat with a raised tail. The face has a mischievous expression painted on in black and it has small reddish stones for eyes. I love Pavone's work as it always has a sense of humour and the designs are great! This one measures just under 3 x 2 1/2 inches and is in good condition. Marie-Christine Pavone - Paris - is famous for making hand worked pieces in galalith. Galalith is a form of casein (an old type of plastic). It cannot be moulded (unlike other plastics) but is dyed and polished. Judy Smith says on her website - "Baubles and Bibelots" - that Marie-Christine first sands, cuts and polishes the galalith in a machine for days. It is then dyed, polished by hand, lacquered and hand painted - a lot of work. She mainly makes brooches but I have seen some wonderful earrings and bracelets! I do not have many pieces of Pavone at the moment but am trying to get some more. Ref: 3318 D39/12
