This is the iconic cigarette case - made out of celluloid  - that has a hand on the front.  These cigarette cases usually come in two styles. This one, with the hand attached to the lower part (and looking as if it is gripping a blue oval); and another design where a hand is attached to the lid and closes by draping itself over the bottom.  At Steve Nankervis says in his book 'Plastic Passion' - "Celluloid Cigarette Case. 1920s.  Difficult to find in perfect condition".  Schiffer ISBN 0-7643-1213-8.  I haven't had an undamaged one for several years! I was very pleased to find this one.  It is in cream pearlised celluloid, and has a pale green cuff and a ring on a finger.  The oval is mottled blue and edging black and yellow.  Inside it is stamped 'Foreign' (probably Japan).  It has a small divider to support.  (See pictures).  It has a black line along the hinges, but is otherwise plain on the back and the inside.  The only small point to mention is that on the right side, and looking from the side, the lid does not completely close down the side.  It is not damaged but the celluloid has changed shape very slightly.  It is rare to find one where this does not happen at all!  It is otherwise in good condition.  It measures approx. 3 4/5 x 3 inches.
