Whiting & Davis are primarily famous for their mesh bags - which they have been making since 1876. They were not known for jewellery until the 1950s. Pamela Wiggins - in an article called 'More than a pretty purse' ( says "Some of the company's costume jewelry styles appear to have been made over a number of decades. For instance, the popular coiled snake bracelets made of rigid metal mesh have been found in 1950s wholesale catalogs and also documented in fashion magazine advertising in the 1960s." I do not know if they were made in this design after the 1960s. Some very elaborate ones are being made today. This snake bangle is a larger size. I can wear it on my upper arm but my arms are quite thin. The opening measures about 3 x 2 1/2 inches and the bangle is flexible. I think it would be great for a thin arm - as an upper arm bangle - or for a wide wrist. Might not be good for an average size wrist! It is in good condition. Ref: 3354 D46/4
